Progress Report

So week two, before I get to the boxing on Saturday I want to give a bit of a run down on how I have felt and trained this week.

I can honestly say, bar some patches of high motivation for my first sporting love, rugby, this is the most excited I have felt in a long time, I am pushing my unfit carcass to places that it isn't happy with and then pushing it a bit more, I hate rest days, but understand the importance of them, I just want to be in the gym constantly!

This week I have been trying to work harder on the fitness aspect of the process, and also more footwork as I tend to be too static, I have been doing this through short sprints, more ducking and pacing round the heavy bag and alternating the speed on the treadmill, fitness wise I have been focusing on the torture sessions Scott puts us through on a Saturday morning, burpees, variations on press ups, crunches and using the medicine ball and I work myself to the point of exhaustion!

So Saturday morning came round, I was pretty knackered after a late finish the night before, kept myself to a couple of drinks all night, and rolled into bed at 2am after packing my bag for the next morning. Alarm went at 7.00am and I can honestly say I wanted to smash it to bits! I got out though got to Knights Gym nice and early and bashed down a coffee - and then it began....

We started with the warm up which is bad enough itself, a combination of bodyweight moves, high knee sprints and squats that immediately had me sweating like a pregnant nun! Then gloves on and more pad and movement work, I'm not sure if it was the tiredness or just the newness of everything I was learning but the combinations were taking too long for me to work out, its difficult to see other people switching straight on to what is being shown to them but I am focused enough to take away what Scott is saying and work on it.

The session was really enjoyable though and I think we are bonding as a group of people and that is down to Scott's no bullshit approach and I think an element of luck having a great bunch of people at the same point, aiming for the same goal.

I got straight back in the gym today to firstly shake off the effects of the Borthwick battering, and secondly to put some of what I learned straight into practice, and I am glad I did, I might not get an A+ for boxing skills right now but for once I am really happy with the levels of commitment I am putting into this process.

Big thanks to Scott and the boxing gladiators I am training with, big thanks to those who have already sponsored me, big thanks to friends and family for all the support via FB, in person and by txt and a massive thanks to my wife for putting up with my early starts, protein farts and banging on about boxing all the time!

Big Love
