Another weekend passes and another week closer to fight night, this week I have been in the gym and working hard to build the fitness levels needed for the night, I have had a few weak days this week where for whatever reason my motivation levels have been a bit low, but they have picked back up and by the end of the week I had better and better sessions.
When we all got to Knights Gym yesterday, after the warm up the dreaded words "Everyone grab a rope"...I have hardly ever skipped before in my life and it showed but as Scott said aside from learning how to throw a decent hook, learning to skip is the most embarassing thing for a boxer to learn, I did look like an idiot with my 5 or 6 skips before gettting tangled but I am confident I will pick it up and be skipping everywhere!
The session also introduced us to body sparring and it is clear both my footwork, and defence leaves a lot to be desired so both will be getting plenty of practice in front of the mirror to ensure I am more sideways on, bending the knees more and definitely keeping the hands up. I am leaving myself too exposed and don't want to get found out on the night. Once again along with Scott the guys sparring with me were patient and offered great help, cheers Jonesy and Lisa!
The session was as always sweaty and knackering but I have to say I am still loving it, the fitness aspect is amazing and I always feel really good for having done it, and my excitement about fight night is getting ridiculous, I am sat here as I am typing with The Fighter in the DVD player for Gods sake!
Yesterday night had a bit of a blowout in Richmond with the wife and some friends, and it was a great night, one too many sambuca's and one too many jaeger-bombs and I felt pretty guilty this morning, which went nicely with the hangover especially as I know at least one of the lads from boxing has been teetotal for 4 1/2 months building up to the show, but I will more than make up for it in the gym this week, there will be pain, sweat and hard work but I will be a machine by the end of this!
Big shout to all the other fighters and Scott, everyone is making this a great experience, from Jo helping with wraps, Jonesy, Lisa and everyone else I sparred with putting up with my very amateurish efforts so far brilliant, I feel like I am making great mates as well as finally starting to get properly fit and healthy.
Final note is that we found out who we are fighting this week, it may change and I have yet to meet the fella properly but I actually don't care who I fight, all I can do is train as hard as I can and I will fight whoever they put in front of me.
